SEN Transition

How we support children/young people with SEN starting at our school

For children joining us that already have identified SEND we begin by having a meeting with their parents/carers to discuss the needs of their child. We will also ask for copies of any relevant paperwork from the child’s previous school and finally have a discussion with any previous schools/child care providers. This will enable us to identify quickly what needs to be put in place to help support the new child.

How we support children/young people with SEN moving between classes in our school

Transition between classes can also be a worrying time for some children. To minimise this, we give children the opportunity to spend time in their new class environment as well as meeting their new teacher. If children need further support (social stories etc) this will be organised. We aim to make transition in school as seamless process.

How we support children/young people with SEN leaving our school

For children moving on to pastures new, we make every effort to pass all relevant information on to their new setting. This would involve conversations with the child’s new staff, passing of documentation that would be required and if need be facilitating transition time between schools. If further support was needed, this would be organised.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
