Art and Design is studied throughout the school. It is taught in alternative half-term units alongside Design Technology, following the National Curriculum and links to topics to ensure a well-structured approach. We aim for our children to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. They will become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.
We want them to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design and we want them to know about great artists, craft makers and designers. The key terms of Art and Design are developed from EYFS to KS2, with exploring ideas, designing, creating, evaluating and analysing being recurrent themes. Topics are organised around Discovery Federation’s Long Term Plan which you can view under by clicking on either ‘Cycle A’ or ‘Cycle B’, which allows children to study a range of skills and techniques specific to the subject. Each year, there is a clear progression of skills and vocabulary which build on prior learning – such as using tools and techniques with increasing mastery. Lessons engage the children and scaffolding is provided to make lessons accessible for all.
