Welcome to Squirrel Class
We are Year 4 children (8-9 years). There are 12 children in our class and our teacher is Miss Robertson and she is supported by our teaching assistant Miss Hunter. We are taught in our single-aged class on a morning and then merge with Owl Class (Year 3) on an afternoon so we also work with Miss Hodgson and Mrs Bonner.
To find out what we will be doing this year, take a look at the Our Curriculum section of our website. To help us with our spelling and reading, take a look at the phonics and reading section of our website. As we get older, we access the internet more and school wants us to stay safe online. To find out how you can support us in staying safe online, check out the Online Safety section of our website.
We hope you enjoy seeing what we get up to this year!
This term, in English, we will be continuing to develop our reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. We will be looking at a collection of short stories inspired by Ancient Egypt, a literacy shed unit and a poem titled ‘Lord Neptune’ by Judith Carroll. In Maths, we will looking at length and perimeter before moving on multiplication and division. In our other subjects, we are also looking at some very interesting topics! In Science, we will be answering the question, ‘Can we control electricity?’. In History, we are looking at the Stone Age – Iron Age and will be answering the question – ‘Who were Britain’s first builders?’ We will even be accessing an online workshop linked to this topic to extend our knowledge. We are also continuing to look at safe relationships in PSHE, Christmas in RE and will also be continuing our French topic ‘les animaux’.
We are so excited for another wonderful year of learning! In English, we are using Emma Carroll’s fantastic book ‘Secrets of a Sun King’ to inspire our reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Our knowledge of the Ancient Egyptians, which we studied last year, will support our understanding of this text. In Maths, we will be working hard to develop our place value knowledge. We will also continue to develop our times tables facts. In our other subjects, we are looking at some very interesting topics! In Science, we will be answering the question, ‘What do our bodies do with all the food we eat?’. In Geography, we are looking at the local area and what makes the North East special. This will also link to our Art topic of local landmarks. We will even be going on a school visit linked to these topics to extend our knowledge. We are also looking at friendships and families in PSHE, Christianity in RE and will also be learning French for the first time!
Our PE day is a Wednesday afternoon.
