Welcome to Hedgehog Class
We are Year 2 children (6-7 years). There are 15 children in our class and our class teacher is Miss Horrocks. We also have the support of Mrs Rushforth.
On a morning we work together in Year 2 and then merge with Year 1 (Rabbit Class) on the afternoon. We are taught by Miss Horrocks, Miss Hodgson and Mrs Rushforth across afternoons and Friday mornings.
To find out what we will be doing this year, take a look at the Our Curriculum section of our website. To help us with our spelling and reading, take a look at the phonics and reading section of our website.
Keep an eye on this page to see what we are up to and to see some of our fantastic work!
Autumn 2
This half term we are reading the book called ‘The Rhythm of the Rain’. This story has some fantastic images and vocabulary that we will be applying into our writing, which we will share with you very soon!
In Mathematics, we are focusing on addition and subtraction. We will also be practicing counting in 2’s, 5’s, 10’s and 3’s as well as counting forwards and backwards to and from 100.
In Science, we are looking at the topic, ‘How do we choose materials?’
In History, we are looking at our local area and asking the question, ‘How has our locality changed?’
In Design and Technology, we are going to be making our very own puppets! Children will be very excited to share their finished product with you.
Autumn 1
This half term we began by reading the story ‘Greta and the Giants’ which was a story inspired by Greta Thunberg. This story was able to introduce ways that we can help look after our environment and children were able to share some ways they are trying to take care of our planet.
The second book which we have just begun is ‘One Giant Leap’. This story is based on the life and career of Neil Armstrong. We will use this book to focus our writing tasks on and will share some of our excellent writing with you soon.
In Mathematics, we are focusing on place value for numbers up to 100. We are also working hard to count forwards and backwards to and from 100.
In Science, we are looking at the topic, ‘What do living things need to survive?’
In Geography, we are looking at our local area and asking the question, ‘How has our town changed?’
In Art, we are looking at the art work produced by Jackson Pollock. We are looking forward to sharing some of our art with you soon.
We are also learning about Christianity in RE, friends and families in PSHE and in music we are learning about South African music.
Our PE day is on a Tuesday afternoon.
