Welcome to Caterpillar Class
We are some of the youngest class in the school. We are nursery age children (3-4 years). There are 26 places in our class on a morning and afternoon. Children start at different times of the year once they are three years old. We are in a ‘pod’ with Bumblebee and Butterfly class. In EYFS our teachers are Mrs Heron & Mrs Scotter, and our teaching assistants are Miss Fenwick, Mrs Graham and Miss Nicholson. We have lots of fun and enjoy play-based learning. We have a fantastic outdoor area where we like to spend lots of time. Find out about our curriculum and long-term plans in the Our Curriculum section of our website.
Autumn 2
We enjoyed our half term holiday and returned to Nursery ready to play and learn with our friends and teachers.
This half term our topic is ‘Seasons and Weather’.
Our language and literacy activities will be based key stories including ‘Whoever’s Heard of a Hibernating Pig’, ‘The Enormous Turnip’, ‘Elmer in the Snow’, ‘Scarecrow’s Secret’ and ‘Dear Santa’.
Autumn 1
We have all settled into Caterpillar class and we have been getting to know some new staff members and new children.
Our learning is based around the topic, ‘Who am I!’ alongside the theme of Harvest. We will enjoy learning more about each other, our families and our interests.
Our language and literacy activities will be based key stories including The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Hen and Sully the Seahorse. Here are some pictures of the some of our activities based on our key stories.
Along with Butterfly Class, we enjoyed a visit to Broom House Farm. We had lots of fun exploring the woodland area and then we got to meet some of the animals.
As part of our work on Harvest, we enjoyed making and sharing our own vegetable soup. Lots of children brought in vegetables from home to add to the pot!
At the end of Autumn Term 1, we had a Phonics Stay and Play session and invited our parents to come into school to see how we learn pre-phonic skills. It was great to see so many parents in school. I think our parents were impressed with how well we joined in with all of the activities.
