Welcome to Badger Class!
We are the oldest children in school: Year 6 (10-11 years). There are 11 children in our class, our teacher is Miss Plummer and she is supported by our teaching assistant, Mrs Palmer. We take on important roles in school such as House Captains, Monitors and Buddies. We are the role models for everyone else in school. We are taught in a ‘pod’ with Fox Class (Year 5) so we also work with Miss Jarvis when we merge classes.
Year 6 will be taking Statutory Assessment Tests at the end of this year so we have a very busy year ahead. To find out what we will be doing this year, take a look at the Our Curriculum section of our website. To help us with our spelling and reading, take a look at the phonics and reading section of our website. As we get older, we access the internet more and school wants us to stay safe online. To find out how you can support us in staying safe online, check out the Online Safety section of our website.
We are continuing to read Rooftoppers in English this half term for four weeks before moving on to look at some poetry. We are really enjoying Rooftoppers and we have produced some fantastic work closely linked to this book.
In mathematics, we are working hard to secure our knowledge of the four operations and ensure we are answering a range of problem solving and reasoning questions as well as working on our arithmetic knowledge.
In History, we are looking at Early Islamic Empire as we answer the question ‘Where did the Islamic Empire Start?’. We are very excited to explore this topic and see what we are able to find out about this.
As we move towards Christmas, we will be looking at creating a 3D Christmas Tree! There will be lots of fun had during this topic and we are very excited to share our work with you.
This term in English, we are reading Rooftoppers. We have made some fantastic predictions and some of our work will be uploaded here for you to see soon.
In mathematics, we are working hard this term to secure our place value knowledge and four operations to help our arithmetic skills as well as solving lots of problems.
In our other subjects, we are looking at some very interesting topics!
In science we are answering the question ‘Can we vary the effects of electricity?’.
In geography, we are looking at what happens when the land meets the sea. We will be going on a school visit linked to this topic to extend our knowledge.
Marsden Rock and Souter Lighthouse Trip!
We went on an excellent trip to explore Marsden Rock and Souter Lighthouse to support our science and geography topics this half term. We had lots of fun and learnt lots so we are excited to extend this knowledge back in the classroom.
We are also looking at contrasting artists in art, friendships and families in PSHE and religious diversity in RE.
